Donald L. Jones has been in the private practice of law in Albuquerque, New Mexico since receiving a Juris Doctors Degree from The University of New Mexico School of Law and being licensed to practice law in New Mexico in 1969. He is an owner and a managing member of Jones & Smith Law Firm, LLC and practices primarily in the areas of business law, commercial transactions, real estate law, estate planning, and probate law. Don has an “AV” rating in Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and was listed in the 1989-1990 Edition of Best Lawyers in America in the area of Real Estate Law. Don is dedicated to his community as well as to his law practice and the legal profession. He has served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and is presently serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Senior Lawyers Division of the New Mexico State Bar. In his spare time, Don enjoys playing golf, reading, spending time and traveling with his wife, Merri Jean, and visiting their children and grandchildren who live in Chicago, Illinois and Olympia, Washington.

Professional Activities and Seminars Presented: Don served as a legal intern for the Albuquerque City Attorney’s Office while in law school, has been a long-time member of the Albuquerque Bar Association, served as co-chair of the Campaign Committee for the Equal Access to Justice Fund for the New Mexico Legal Aid Society, and is currently servicing Vice Chair of Board of Directors of the Senior Lawyers Division of the New Mexico State Bar. He has presented several legal seminars, including: Title Insurance and Abstracts of Title sponsored by the Continuing Legal Education of the State Bar of New Mexico, Inc.; Real Estate Financing Documents for the Albuquerque Board of Realtors; Commercial Real Estate Transactions for Legal Assistants of New Mexico; Foreclosures and Receiverships for members of the New Mexico Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management; Surveys and Real Estate Contracts for the New Mexico Association of Surveyors and Mappers; Joint Ventures between U.S. and Mexican companies for The Mexico Business Seminar; and Mistakes Lawyers Have Made for third year law students at the University of New Mexico School of Law.
Community Involvement: Don has served as a volunteer member and as chair or vice chair of several boards of directors of various civic and non-profit corporations in Albuquerque, including: Chair of the Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program, Inc.; Chair of the Board of Directors of the Samaritan Counseling Center; Chair of the City Charter Review Task Force for the City of Albuquerque; and Chair of the Government Division and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
